Although native to the Java and Indonesian islands, the cubeb pepper are also grown in Indonesia and Sri Lanka. Instead of being used as a spice to increase heat or sharpness, cubeb pepper was first used as a remedy, or herbal drink to promote good stomach health, urinary tract infections and respiratory related illnesses. Due to its antiseptic properties, the cubeb pepper is also used widely in Ayurveda cooking.
The cubeb pepper has less of the sharp punchy note like pepper but instead has similar taste note of an all spice, eucalyptus and mint. Very subtle mint note with slight bitter sweet after taste.
Can be mixed into salt and pepper mix to create a healthy spice mix.
